William Brassey Hole R.E. (1846-1917)

Hole began painting in 1870 and then, following the example of Francis Seymour Haden and James Whistler, etching. He produced landscapes and romanticised historical subjects. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers in 1885. In addition to the works he showed at the Society, Hole exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Scottish Academy.
