Shapland and Petter oak wall cabinet
An Arts and Crafts oak wall cabinet by Shapland and Petter, c 1903. This would originally have been a smokers cabinet. Made of solid oak with decorative heart cutouts, cupboard with enamelling (coloured glass and copper grille decoration) to door, interior with two shelves and original pipe racks, side shelves with heart piercings and pipe rack to one side, three drawers with original linings and wooden covers. A rare example of Shapland and Petter enamelling decoration, in very good original condition.
This cabinet was purchased from Liberty's famous fourth floor Arts and Crafts department during the 1990s.

Shapland and Petter introduced enamelling decoration into their range between 1900 and 1902. The metal fittings are of antique copper, relieved by vitreous enamel, giving jewel-like effects in the light.
